Things Falling Apart

By abg | January 9, 2009

Some examples of the failings of the 9ger state can be seen here and here. Elechi Amadi is the author of the The Concubine which is a classic African Writers Series book.

Ghana is at a crossroads when it comes to the quality of life we all love about it: what we see in 9ger today is one future we could easily fall into if we don’t take active steps today especially with the so-called Black Gold coming in. We need professional, effective police (and a lot more of them), focused attention on rooting out the narco-trade and a commitment from the top to enable the creation of jobs for the hundreds of thousands of youth entering the workforce every year.

Otherwise, you will find it difficult to enjoy your money in LA (Lovely Accra), KC (Kumasi City) or any other part of Ojakrom you find yourself in.

We cannot take what we have for granted. It is ironic how in the 70s and early 80s, Ivory Coast had the same picture of prosperity and peace in the sub-region Ghana has now. The fragility of our institutions (in the sub-region) means it can all go bad quite quickly.
